So I'm here to introduce you to the joy of selecting the *perfect* font for your layout.
Let's take a look at a few different categories of fonts--(part 2 will focus on 2 other types of fonts)
1) Cursive or messy handwriting. These are probably the most popular in digiscrap-land. We often like to journal about the photos, and a good handwritten font is perfect for conveying your personal thoughts and memories.
Here's a few examples of layouts using handwritten or journaling fonts:

My personal favorite Pea fonts are: Pea Keylor, Pea Steph, and Pea Hannah Vanilla, depending on the type of layout and what mood I'm in.
Another favorite handwriting font is CK Ali's Hand.
2) Neat or printed writing. I find that on very busy layouts, or on layouts with a lot of small journaling, it can be helpful to use "neat" fonts that are easy to read. In the past, when I wanted very small, simple, or condensed writing, I usually used Century Gothic (usually installed on most computers already). But, I recently discovered the font Print Clearly, and it has become one of my new go-to fonts.
