I Scrapped! Sneak Peek & Chance to Win!

I needed to take a break from "work"....you know, laundry, cleaning, cooking, homeschooling, taking care of sick kids (yup, my kids are sick, AGAIN!). So I decided to scrap a few pages tonight (well, technically it is 12AM on Tuesday morning)...but who's looking at the clock?!?

I happened to take some great shots of my kids this weekend so I decided to scrap those but I needed a little help. Sometimes when I want a little extra help I check out the challenges over at Scrap Orchard. I found a few that I wanted to play along with. It kind of gives me a boost, gives me some ideas on how to scrap my photos. PLUS for every challenge you participate in you earn points and then those points can be redeemed to get coupons! And for the month of March all points are doubled!!!

The first challenge I chose was the Say Cheese Challenge. We were supposed to scrap about the "beginning" of something. Well, I had the perfect photos. The girls and I made our first ice-cream run of the spring/summer time season. It's like our kick-off to spring. We go bike riding, get all hot and sweaty and then go get ice-cream afterwards at a local little ice-cream shop called Peppermint Patti's. So here's the page I made for that challenge. Oh and can you believe I used a patterned paper for the background!?! I'm getting out of my comfort zone here but I think it turned out pretty good.

I used my Spring Temps and Summer's Last Kiss by DeCrow Designs.

For the next one I chose the Lift a Layout Challenge. You look at the layout they chose and you do your own interpretation of it. This one was a bit harder for me because I didn't start with a template. I learned one thing while scrapping this page: I do much better with a template.....or maybe it's just that I'm faster with a template! Oh and I struggled with the clustering once again. If you go look at the layout they gave us to interpret, it had some beautiful clustering on it....but I'm just no good at it, I tried and as you can see I did very minimal clustering....but I did try to do a little bit.

I used Captivated Visions new kit Fantasia

Now onto the fun part of the post. I have 3 new products releasing this weekend. Well, they are kind of new. I don't know if you are familiar with my Recyclable Templates but it's 2 new sets of those (previous freebies & collab templates) plus one new Stamp/CU product coming out. So leave a comment here and tell me if you like to participate in challenges and what your favorite types of challenges are and then tomorrow night I'll come back and choose a WINNER! I'll announce the winner in the comments section here and on my facebook.

Well, I better get to bed! Hoping and praying that none of my kids wake up sick tonight! Have a happy Tuesday!

I LOVE challenges! They keep me motivated, because I'm competitive, so I actually get pages done! I have really enjoyed them all so far, but I really enjoy speed scraps. Maybe it's the competitive part of me again :)

I simply love challenges cause they inspire and motivate me. They sometimes push me out of my comfort zone and let me discover all scrapping has to offer. And most of all, they are so much fun ;) I love template challenges the best, but I almost like all challenges to be honest.

Thank you for the chance to win your new releases!

I love challenges, they help me see out side the box! I think journaling ones are the hardest...but most rewarding!

I love doing challenges, especially those that teach me a new way of doing something in PS. It's always good to stretch from my regular style. :-)

I have a love/hate relationship with challenges. On one hand I do enjoy myself when scrapping and a feel good when I accomplish something. On the other hand, they often cause me stress and anxiety and, like most people, I certainly have enough of that in life and I don't want to deal with more!!

I love doing challenges because I am new to digi scrapping and it gets me thinking about different ways to do things or scrapping in a style that I haven't done before. Thanks for the chance!

I love challenges as well, but lately even scrapping has been a challenge. I need to go over to SO and see what inspires me, so I can get caught up. Love your new layouts, great work! I tend to lean towards template challenges and not too restrictive concept challenges such as monochromatic layout, use X # of a certain element, etc.

I love challenges and my favorites are the ones where you are given a template to use or a set of papers/embellies. I love having a limited set of things to work with. Thanks for the chance to win!

I like to do challenges but I usually only do template challenges because they don't stress me out. Maybe I need to break out of my mold and try a new challenge.

Love the ice cream page! I'm a sucker for buntings. Have you thought about doing a set of bunting templates? You know, like how you have a set of edges or frames or borders? You could just do a set of different buntings. I would LOVE that! :) A tutorial on how to shadow them realistically would be awesome as well. Just a thought! :)

Yes, I like the challenges... they keep me "creative" when I am not. LOL! I like template challenges because they are the "get me started" boost that I need.

Thank you for a chance to win.

I love doing the challenges. I love it for a. the obvious coupon, lol, but more importantly b. it helps me make unique layouts that I would not have otherwise made, and seeing as I am doing a HUGE photobook each YEAR of my daughters life (rather than the traditional scrapbook with pages in plastic sleeves), it really keeps the pages unique which is important - you don't want to see the same thing every other page, or book even. thank you for the chance! Every dollar saved by winning a kit/pack, is another dollar spent buying a new one! LOL

I'm brand new to scrapbooking so I haven't done any challenges yet. I think I will enjoy doing them once I get the hang of it. :)

Oh I love a template challenge and especially a font challenge. They take me out of my comfort zone, but not too much :D

I'm also new at digi-scrapping, so I've not done a challenge, but I look forward to it. One thing I appreciate about you, Liz, is that you- an expert, artiste, an ORCHARD GIRL in other words;),- share with us how these challenges are even challenging for you in certain areas. That gives me hope and encouragement because I REALLY admire your (and many other experienced scrappers' and designers') cherished creations!

Thank you all so much!
I appreciate all your comments.
Looks like a lot of you enjoy challenges. For you newer ones out there, challenges are a great way to get started. Especially template challenges.....especially if you struggle like I do when I try not to use a template.

LRaeWoo - I do have a set of "Frame" templates. I don't know if that's what you mean by bunting. I guess I need to look further into this. I'm ALWAYS up for suggestions. In fact, the set of templates I have coming out next week were all because of a suggestion someone e-mailed me.

Chalane - Thank you! I in now way feel like an "expert", especially when I look around in the galleries. Sometimes I wish I could focus more of my time on making better pages but I just love designing templates...sad to say, but sometimes I think I like designing a template rather then a page....it seems easier to me for some reason.

Okay, enough of my blabber.
I know you all want to know tonight's winner! It's Ashly....looks like she could really get some more unique templates for her photobook. Ashly, can you e-mail me at liz *at* scrappingwithliz *dot* com so that I can get you a coupon code.

Thanks! There will be another chance to win again next week. Also, if you do have any suggestions feel free to e-mail me. If I do go with your suggestion then whatever I design with your idea you'll get it for free!

Oh and just by coincidence...seriously! There's a template challenge going on over at Scrap Orchard with a template made by me! It was just posted today.

http://scraporchard.com/forum/showthread.php?27829-March-24-Liz-s-Template-Challenge

So go grab the template and try it out!

Hey Liz! That was me that asked about the bunting templates. :) I wondered after I typed that if I should have called it by a different name. I never know what to call those things! Ha! They are also known as banners or pennants. You know, the little flag things all in a row. :) I love them, but they are hard to make! And even harder to shadow. I love it when they look like they're lifting up off the page at the tips, but the string or stitched end is still firmly attached to the page. I have yet to figure out how to do that in PSE. Anyway, I would love a set of those with different shapes and attachment options. :)

Jenny-Thanks for clarifying. I've actually been thinking of making a set....now I think I might. Although it may be a few weeks before I get to it....have some other things I need to finish.
