2015 Week 7 and 2016 Calendar Page

My Life Templates 2 by Scrapping with Liz
Everyday Life February Kit by Juno Designs
I thought it was funny when I went back through my photos this past week that they were almost all food or snow photos. Apparently we eat a lot when it snows here. Something about the cold and being stuck at home that just makes you want to eat.

I had to modify this week's template a little bit since I had so many photos I wanted to include. I guess taking photos is another thing I do a lot of when we are stuck at home. It kind of felt like we had a week off. No therapies, no co-op, no errands...I loved it. We worked on school work in the morning and the kids played in the snow in the afternoon.

Take a closer look at what a week looks like when we are stuck at home.

Did I mention I don't particularly care for snow clothes? Every afternoon there was a pile of wet, cold, dirty laundry to do...on top off all the regular laundry. But it was definitely worth it to see their happy faces while they slid down the hill, and it got them outside for a few hours everyday.

I also finished my February page for the 2016 Calendar I'm making for my mom. This was a snap to put together. I plan on adding a QR code with a video of all the grandkids saying, "Happy Valentine's Day!" Won't that be cute?

Hey! If you aren't already participating in the Planning Ahead Challenge over at Scrap Orchard you should. We are trying to motivate one another to get their 2016 calendars started so that at the end of the year you'll have a calendar ready to print. Plus if you participate there's a prize each month and this month you could win $10 to my store! You should really play along.

That's it for this week! Hope you all have a good weekend.

A Quick 5x7 Album with 12x12 Templates

My creative team member, Jessica, made a cute little 5x7 album for some of her family members of a trip they took. She printed out multiple books and gave them out as gifts to everyone who went. I just love this idea! She printed with Wal-mart for only $10 each.

She used my Simple and Sweet Album Templates and easily converted them to 5x7 pages by copying the template layers to a 5x7 project and re-sizing as needed. I have a tutorial that goes further into re-sizing templates and another one here just in case you need it.

Here's a look at her cute little album. She used Sweet Shoppe Designs Outdoor Adventures Kit (available in a previous Scrap Stack feature).

I made a quick vacation album with these Simple and Sweet Album Templates III. I'm tellin' ya, they really do help put together a project quickly.

Here are my finished pages from last week. I kept most of these pages really simple since I didn't have a whole lot of time to scrap this past weekend. I'm happy with them and glad to be moving on to the next batch.

These were our final days in Nanjing.

2015: Week 6

My Life Templates 2 by Scrapping with Liz
Snap Happier 2015 by Bella Gypsy
Week 6 started out rough but ended great. We started it with sickness but thankfully it ended with just one child getting it. We ended the week with family, games and food. #alwaysgood

You can take a closer look at my pages below.

Since I didn't take a lot of photos (maybe that was due to dealing with sickness), I filled in one of the journal cards with a little weekly schedule that shows our regularly scheduled events. Can you tell I like Fridays?

Digital Scrapbook Shadow Techniques

I've had a few people ask me how I get realistic shadows on my digital scrapbook pages. I'm always surprised by this since I feel like my shadowing can always use more work. I'm constantly trying new things and adjusting what I do, never feeling that I'm quite there. But since you guys asked I'm answering.

Since there are so many great shadow tutorials out there I thought, instead of writing my own tutorial, I would just share the different tutorials I've read that have helped me and share with you some of the shadow styles I use, and I even made my own little set of FREEBIE shadow styles. They are the same styles I use on my templates.

Let's begin. The very first tutorial I ever read on shadowing was over at One Little Bird. She has a great tutorial (Shadowing - The Basics,) showing you the basic settings you should use for your shadows and then she goes into more details on how to customize the shadows by putting the shadow on a different layer.

The very first set of shadow styles I ever downloaded were from Megan Turnidge. She has a free set (still available) on her blog along with a little tutorial. That's where I learned to warp those shadows, probably one of the quickest, easiest ways to customize your shadows.

Chelle's creations also has some great tutorials that I've read. Here's a great summary on some different shadowing techniques. You can also purchase Chelle's shadow styles here.

I just read this tutorial about using the wave filter on paper layers and I'm definitely going to be trying it soon. It looks like such a simple way to get a realistic shadow on paper layers and even some elements.

For those of you who use Photoshop Elements and can't put your shadow on it's own layer (which most these tutorials require) make sure you check out this video tutorial from Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs.

And here are some free shadow tutorials. These are what I usually use on my templates. They are just a start though, try some of the techniques above.

If you have any favorite shadowing techniques please share them in the comments. I'm always looking for ways to better my shadowing.

GSO Winner!

Please join me and congratulating Melissa (mfallis) on winning this month’s GSO!

She competed against some beautiful competition but her Snow Day layout sled into first! We love this layout using the November SO Template 2 for its non-traditional winter kit, the bright rainbow colors add beautiful punches of color to a layout filled with winter and add to playfulness of the kids enjoying a snow day.

Visit Melissa's gallery to leave her some 'love' on this wonderful winter layout.

Thank you to all you voters! Random-dot-org selected number 23, robinsismai as the winner of $5 to Liz's store in the Vote and Win drawing!

The Next Batch of Pages

Summer Rewind Templates by Scrapping with Liz
Star Quality by Down This Road Designs
CU Epoxy Styles by Chelle's Creations
I've been setting aside the weekends just for scrapping....no template work, no admin work, just scrapping. Don't worry! I still take care of my family and spend a lot of time with them, but when I have time at the computer it's strictly for scrapping. I've really been enjoying my weekends a lot more. I was able to scrap these next 5 pages in Matthew's Album, my 2015 weekly page, my 2015 title page and I even got my next 5 pages started for Matthew's Album!

Now to the next batch of pages in Matthew's Album. These first two were pictures I took around the 'island' we stayed on. It was a very beautiful place.

Lots of Blocks Templates by Scrapping with Liz
Korean Wave by Hat of Bunny
More Spice Than Sugar Alphas by Bella Gypsy
These next two were difficult to scrap. I didn't really know how to scrap them. So I mainly let the pictures and video speak for themselves, and I added a little bit of journaling. I'd like to think I knew what was going on in Matthew's head, but I don't. Hopefully one day he'll be able to look at these pages and tell me what he thought. I think I might journal a page about what was going on in my head.

Here are the next batch of pages I started. Have you noticed I gave up using my Double Monthly Challenge Templates? I needed a little change. I think all these pages will still flow in his album. I just needed a little boost to make my scrapping exciting and creative again. Changing it up definitely helped.

Anyway, these next few just have edited pictures in place. I almost like how they look with just a plain white background....but I have so many pretty digital pages in my stash that I want to use!

Being delayed in a foreign airport for over 5 hours calls for a 2 page spread, especially when they serve you shrimp. Did I mention it was hot, stinky and packed?
