I made it through the weekend with the Orchard being down! I hope you found plenty of fun things to keep you distracted. Did you play with any of Liz's templates? I did! As if Scrap Orchard being back up and running wasn't enough to make your day, I'm here with a new Gallery Stand Out! I can hardly contain your joy!

Our winner this week is jenltip! Look at this adorable layout she did with Liz's Cut Out Number Templates

How sweet is that? What a great way to highlight all those baby pictures! I love the little cluster of elements up at the top. It's a wonderful creative touch to make the page her own!

Have a great week everyone!

New Simple Square Templates 20% OFF

Ellie is enjoying vacation time with her family this week so I'm here (Liz) to bring you my newest stuff. It's pretty simple this week. I have a new set of templates for you. These are nice and simple but can be used in so many ways.  I call them my Simple Square Templates. I made them so they can easily be made into double layouts and you get 10 different templates so you can quickly & easily make a whole album with them if you want to. Below you can see some pages that my CT made and there is even a page from me. I just HAD to use these after I made them....I couldn't resist! LOL! And of course it's 20% OFF this week. Oh and just to let you know Scrap Orchard is going to be moving to a new web host and it'll be down on Saturday and if you don't grab them before the weekend you'll have to wait until late Sunday night or Monday. So grab them now so you can play with them this weekend!
Simple Square Temps
And I just had to make a Nevada set of Templates....and if you don't know why, you can read about it here. I know some of you are dying for the rest of the states. I'm really hoping on working on a lot of them in the next couple weeks. So keep your eyes on the lookout.

Something for everyone!

I thought I would take you for a walk through Liz's store. I am just amazed at how it is like a one-stop shop where you can find nearly anything you could possilby want/need when it comes to templates!

Are you ready?? I know you will recognize some of these but if you are like me there might be a few that you had forgotten all about and get giddy as you see it again! Here goes....all images are linkable to her store.

Are you in the market for some DIY Flashcards?? Liz has you covered. How cute to be able to personalize a set of these for your little one or as a gift for someone else!!!

Do you have a special event like a birthday, graduation, family reunion where you have lots of pics you want to scrap on a page?? I used to be all about ONE photo per layout and now I am loving "photo series" scrapping and these Multi Photo Templates make it so easy!

Got journaling?? These are for YOU!!

Make your own BANNERS!! What a brilliant idea.....again, a wonderful way to add that personal touch to your decorations!!!

I seriously {heart} this "heart templates II" set! With room for journaling, photos & a title!!!!

Like The Gambler said "You've got to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em" You won't have any problem FOLDING with this Folded Paper Template Set!

Do you have double vision? Liz seems to know what her audience wants and then delivers on it. And she did it again with this Double Template Set....for all of those 2-pager scrapbookers out there!

These Cut Out Alpha Templates are such an eye-catcher and another great way to scrap a series of photos, too!

States! I never would have thought of state templates but Liz did! Maybe you are proud of the state you live in....maybe you want to scrap about the state you one day dream of retiring to. This one just happens to be my absolute favorite state (so far....have not made it to Hawaii yet).

Sometimes bigger IS better and I love these Big Title Templates Liz created to make your title work a focal point without making it "the" focal point in your layout!

A gorgeously orchestrated background is the foundation of any layout! Clip your favorite papers to these masks and create something stunning to build upon!

Are you a Project 365 scrapper?? Fear not, Liz has your back....scrap a years' worth of photos with this 3 template set!!!

This Recipe Card Template set is perfect for creating a personalized recipe starter set for a new bride. Or what about finally getting all your grandmother's old & tattered recipes converted over to something new & fresh.

You don't need a special pair of red & blue paper glasses over your eyes to get the effects of these 3D Alpha templates!!! Make a bold statement in your next layout with this set!

See what I mean about ONE STOP SHOP?? This is just a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of her store so if you are new to Liz and her designs or maybe you are a long time follower but needed a refresher....I encourage you to just go through, page by page, and look at how amazingly versatile her templates are!!!
Happy Scrapping Everyone! ~Helen~

Life with Liz - Exciting News!

Okay, first of all, what do you think of my new blog look & logo? I like to change things up every once in awhile and I thought it was time for a new look. I tried to make the blog a little easier to navigate. My new favorite feature is that you can just click on tutorials and it will take you to a list of my tutorials, that way you don't have to scroll through all the pages. So I hope you like it since it'll be around for awhile. I did it all on my own, with a tiny bit of help from my husband. I only had to ask him for help with one thing! Yippee, I'm learning!

On to the REALLY exciting news. If you follow me on facebook then you probably have already have an idea of what it is.

Yup, I'm going to Vegas for Scrap Orchard's Digi Convention!!!! I'll even be teaching a class or two!!!! I'm really am hoping to meet some of you all there.

Here are some things you also might want to know:

1. If you are one of the first 50 people to register you'll be entered to win an iPod touch!
2. They are also going to be giving away an iPad to one lucky winner at the convention!

You can go to the Convention info forum here to get your registration packet and any other info you need.

I literally just got off the phone making my registration!

I'll be honest......I've never had the desire to go to Vegas.....until NOW! I've never flown in a big airplane (just the small 2 seater my dad use to fly) and I've never been to Vegas! So this should be quite the adventure for me. I'm also bringing my husband along and leaving the kids at home with grandma. I'm looking forward to meeting some of my digi friends & having a weekend away with my hubby.

Here's where I need your help. First off I need you to go register so I can see you there (LOL)! Then I need some help deciding what my hubby and I should do on the extra day that we'll have all to ourselves, now keep in mind we don't gamble or drink, so what should we do? I've looked into going to the Grand Canyon (which I would LOVE to see) but I'm thinking it might be kind of far. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing you there!

Get Playful!

Hi, Tiffany here again to bring you some design tips for making the most of the variety Liz offers in her shop. Last month we looked at Linear style templates, and today I want to take a look at clustering-style or "playful" templates.

Playful templates have much less structure, and instead of evoking simplicity, they have a feeling of unpredictability. Photos are often tilted or have skewed shapes, and you will find clustering and layering of elements (either a lot or maybe just a little). The embellishments play an important role - lacking the foundational strong lines of a linear design, a Playful layout's element clusters help anchor the page and give it focus.

Here are a couple of Liz's products that fall in the Playful category. Big Title Templates definitely have a linear appeal to them, but Liz also included a bit of direction for adding in some elements and clusters:

I think these Off the Page templates are very playful and happy:

Clustering is definitely not one of my strong suits, so it helps me to remember that the embellishments we put down on the page have a purpose - to help link and connect the text and photos in your page, which might otherwise just look like they were randomly thrown down. The elements might draw your eye across the page, or they might be fasteners that "hold down" your photos - giving more of a realistic feel to the page. Yes, clusters are pretty, but they have function too!

Here are some more tips:
  • Whereas "less is more" was a strength of the Linear style, "more is more" often works well with the Playful style. So try layering multiple background papers; or try placing even more embellishments than are represented in the template.
  • Make your title bold, funky, and layered - with fonts, alphas and even elements used to emphasize it. (A great title is a perfect way to make a template "your own")
  • Since layering is so fundamental to the Playful style, try to use up all those great papers you have. Use multiple colors and patterns - just go for it.
  • Shadows are important. When you are layering elements on top of each other, you want them to have depth and dimension. Good shadow work goes hand in hand with great clustering. (caits had a great Clusterified! post where she talked about how she clusters and shadows)
Here are a couple layouts I found in the Scrapping with Liz gallery at Scrap Orchard which show off the strengths of Playful element placement. They are both two of my favorites:

JennyMcD used a layered background and some great clustering to make this spectacular page called Sisterly Love. The clustering was not a part of the template itself, but the tilted frames definitely give it a more flirtatious feel, and Jenny really took that idea and went with it.

charmedeebob made this one called Puddles. She used just enough extra elements to give this otherwise Linear template a really fun twist. I love the raindrops scattered down the side which mirror the linear arrangement of the photos.

Happy Scrapping!

Life with Liz - I'm 30 & a Sneak Peek

I've been 30 for over a week now and I don't feel any different! I guess turning 30 wasn't a big deal for me because most of my friends are already in their 30's and I feel like I'm just catching up with them. Maybe they won't think of me as the "young" one anymore :-)

Anyway, I had a fun b-day and I wanted to say thanks to all my digi friends who wished me a happy birthday. You guys are great!

My husband planned a special date where we "traveled" the world. We went to 5 different restaurants. We went to Mexico for our appetizers, Italian for our salad, Japan for our main dish, Italian again for dessert and then Germany for coffee. Some friends went along and them some more friends joined us along the way.

Then the next day we had a big birthday bash at my brothers house complete with family, friends, & cake. We celebrate me & my brother's birthday (we're twins), my sis-in-law's b-day and my hubby's birthday who's birthdays are all only a few days apart. Oh and me and my brother's wedding anniversarys are close too. We got married on the same day 5 years apart. Cool huh, so my brother and I share the same birthday and the same anniversary.

Anyway, enough rambling. I wanted to show you all a page I made with pics from the's made with a set of new temps that are coming out on here's a sneak peek! I just couldn't wait to use them myself! I also used Tracie Stroud's new kit A Pocket Full of Sunshine (it's a beautiful kit and was sooo fun to use with this template). I'm telling you, this template pack is so fun and you'll be able to use all those beautiful papers you have...or use them for lots of photos. There are lots of options with them, so be sure to come by my store on Thursday and see the whole set and as usual they'll be 20% off!

Thanks again for all the birthday wishes!

Make Your Own Flashcard Temps - Idea & Tips

Hello everyone! I'm here early on this wonderful Friday to show you some ideas & tips on how to use my new Flashcard Templates. If you haven't seen them yet, take a look below. There are 3 different sets and they are all super fun and pretty easy to work with to customize and make your own set of flashcards. Let me tell you, your kids are going to LOVE having flashcards with photos of things they least my kids do :-) So keep reading for some fun ideas, photos & tips on how to use these goodies.
First off let me give you the general idea on how I use these. I basically just fill in the template with some paper & photos (go here if you need a tutorial on how to use a psd template). Then I print them out, slide them into a little 4x6 album and then let my kids "trace" the letters, numbers or shapes with a dry erase marker. It's pretty much that easy. The kids think it's great fun getting to "color" on their pictures! All of my kids have used these and they all have LOVED them.

Anyway, now that you have the general idea let me show you some of the flashcards I've made and my team have made so you can get lots of ideas on how to use them.

First I'll show you Tiff's book. She scrapped a page of the book too, cool huh? She used the Preschool Flashcards as her base and then changed some things up.

Here are some tips from Tiff:
Since I was doing multiple pages all with the same basic background, I actually worked in one file and just added many layers. On the tracing pages, I dragged in the tracing letters and used guides to align them. Then when I was ready to save the jpgs, I just turned on and off the layers and saved. I did similarly for the photo pages - I had multiple papers clipped to the photo outline, and I had about 20 different pieces of tape. Again, I just had to turn off and on the layers to get the variety in the pages.

I copy and pasted part of Liz's rectangle shape to create some straight, wavy, and zig-zag practice shapes. I guess I thought he needed some more "remedial" practice before he moves onto the letters :)

I bought the album at a local drug store, and had the 4x6's printed at Costco.

Now I'm going to show you the book I made for Emmie (she's in Kindergarten). I stole Tiff's idea and made a scrapbook page of my album too.
I used the Practice Print Cards to make Emmie's. It's pretty straight forward. I just dropped my pictures into the background of each template and then edited the text to go with the pic. Photo Tip: If you are using the Practice Print Cards make sure you take pics with enough "empty" space toward the bottom of the photo for the tracing part. I printed them out and then slid them into a little .99 cent album from wal-mart. Album Tip: Make sure you buy an album that will lay flat so it's easy to write on. The front cover easily came out of the album so I made up a little title page using Suzy Q's Land of Learning kit and the dotted alpha that are on my Preschool Flashcard Temps. As you can see Emmie is loving her book and she also shared it with her little sister.

Let me show you some photos of the other albums made by my CT.

Here's Heather's spin on the Color and Shapes Flashcards. She decided to use colored elements on her flashcards and different matching alpha. Just think of all the fun you can have with those different alpha and elements you have sitting around. She also made a fun matching side to go with the flashcards.

Here's Jenny's album using the Preschool Flashcards. She decided to keep it nice and simple and just simply add an extra element for each number. She also took the numbers 0-9 that come with the album and combined them to make higher numbers.

Well, I hope this has helped you get some ideas on what you can do with these Flashcards. Ellie and Caits are still working on their sets and I can't wait to show them to you. I'll be posting again when they get theirs done. I would love to see what you can do with these. If you show me yours I'll even give you a 40% off coupon to my store! Just post a link to your photo here in the comments and I'll get back with you....and if you don't mind I might showcase them here in a later blog post!

Oh and right now if you purchase the Practice Print Cards or the Preschool Flashcards you'll get the Shapes & Colors for FREE!
