Life with Liz

Today I thought I would show you a little project I did at my house. I don't know about you but I love changing things up around my house every once in awhile. I like to hang up different pics, paint a room, organize a room from top to bottom, move furniture around, etc.... I don't know why but this is something I've always loved to do. I guess I like a little bit of change every once in awhile and it brings a little bit of newness to our house.

Anyway, I was getting tired of the picture we had hanging in our dining room. It's been hanging here in this house for over 2 years and probably another 5 years in our old house. So it was about time to change things up a bit. I had seen an idea in a magazine showing how to make silhouettes of your kids and then you frame them and hang them up in a fun arrangement. I thought it would look perfect in my dining room. I knew that I could do it all digitally with my digi-scrapping stuff and then just print out the silhouettes and frame them.

So here's how I did it. First I took a profile photos of my kids against a blank wall. It's much easier if you get a pic with now don't want two noses or two chins. It's just easier to extract the photo. Then I extracted their profile, color overlayed it and turned it into a png.

Then I took that png and made an 8x10 page with it. I put different paper in the background and put different paper for the actual silhouette. You could gussy it up a bit by adding elements or what not but I just wanted it to be simple to hang on my wall. I added there names and the dates I took the photo. Here's one of the the jpg's that I saved and then printed.
After I printed them I framed them each with a different frame and hung them on the wall with a mirror I found at an antique store. Here's a photo of my new wall: (disclaimer: I'm not a professional photographer or interior's just an imperfect picture in an imperfect house....but I like it!)
And then I decided it would be fun to scrap a page with the silhouettes on them and this is what I came up with. I think I like it better then my wall.

Hope you enjoyed seeing a little bit of my house.
