One of the biggest steps in creating my weekly scrapbook pages is deciding which photos to include. I take a lot of pictures every week, and not every picture makes it into my pages. Over time, I’ve developed a simple process that helps me narrow things down quickly while still capturing the most meaningful moments. Here’s how I do it.
After gathering all of my photos for the week into one folder, the first thing I do is delete any photos I know I’ll never scrapbook. Don’t worry—I keep a full backup of all my photos in a separate folder, so I don’t lose anything important. But getting rid of the obvious “no’s” makes the rest of the process much easier.
Above you can see the before file, and below is the after. Also, did you notice how many screenshots I took? I'm horrible at accidentally taking screenshots of my phone. Anybody else?
Before I dive into choosing photos, I take a quick look at my template for the week. I pay close attention to the orientation of the main photo spots (portrait or landscape) so I know what will work best. For this week’s template, I noticed there were three landscape spots. Since I usually take mostly vertical photos, I knew those might be a little trickier to fill.
Next, I scroll through all my photos from the week. Sometimes I need a few minutes just to remind myself of what happened. This step helps me spot the moments I definitely want to document and think about the overall story of the week. To my surprise, I was able to fill all those landscape spots with some of my favorite moments—and they all ended up being portrait photos!
After that, I go back through my photos and look for supporting images. These are the smaller or secondary shots that help fill in the story from the week.
Finally, I place the last photo choices into the remaining spots and make adjustments as needed. I check that the page feels balanced and that the most important parts of the week are included.
That’s it! This process keeps me from getting overwhelmed with too many choices and helps me build each page in a way that feels organized and intentional.
